I have been thinking about this a lot recently. When in a state of overwhelm following a massive life change, trying to make sense of life, feeling a failure and desperate to move forward, all well-intentioned advice served was to make me feel even more of a failure and even more anxious, confused and overwhelmed. This has made me very conscious about offering advice not least of all because what worked for me might not work for another. Add to this the endless supply of click bait purporting to resolve your pain for only a small amount of time and money which you are unlikely to have and you are even further away from climbing out of the hole that you have dug for yourself! The answer as you suggest is kindness, compassion and support to find an equilibrium before attempting to move forward. My very supportive friend refers to this as lying back in the water and being kind to yourself.

Teach man how to fish is one of Jesus parables. It’s up to human to understand the meaning behind it. People differs from understanding with parables sometimes misinterpretation on matters they believe correct but wrong to others. Yet, respect them because everyone deserves to voice their ideas.
