I love this image, and not because I took it:
You are looking at the impression my body made when I spent some time lying on my back in a field of snow, surrounded by mountains. To make the photo more interesting, I ran it through a filter, and I like to think that this resulting image shows residual bits of my energy that remained in the snow after I got up.
Yes, I know this thinking is a bit wishful. But it illustrates a larger reality, that wherever we go, we leave an energetic trail.
After you leave a room, people might be grateful that you stopped by. Or they may heave a sigh of relief.
A couple of years ago, I experimented with making a conscious decision to smile every time I entered a store, cafe or room. It was shocking how differently people responded to my arrival. They smiled back. They perked up. Their mood lifted. Yes, just because I smiled first.
I also once was part of a Columbia University study that tested whether dogs could sense the moods of their owner, and whether they made decisions based on these perceptions. The short answer is: yes. (My dog refused to enter the room after I was told to silently act like I was angry.)
If dogs can sense our moods, then so can other people.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I ended up on my back in a snowfield because my energy was pretty bleak that day. There was no special reason; it just was one of those days. My intention wasn’t to hike up the trail and lie down. But after I wandered a bit, the thought occurred to me that it might be fun to wander off the trail… then the thought came that maybe I should lie down in the sun and look at that bright blue sky.
Sometimes, managing our energy in a positive manner takes a bit of experimentation and creativity. Am I good at it? Nope. Do I keep trying to get better? Yep.
Love this! Good vibes headed your way, Bruce! Thanks for sharing.
