Earlier today, I published this image on LinkedIn:
And then, I published a lengthier explanation on Forbes: The Two Most Precious Gifts Are Those You Give Yourself
While I fully believe in both of these statements, over the past few hours I did an inventory of ideas and initiatives that are precious to me. It quickly became apparent that in one particular area, I’ve been hedging my bet. That is, I haven’t embraced a 100% commitment.
I call myself a social media ghostwriter, but my actual practice is far deeper than that. I don’t just write down what entrepreneurs tell me. Instead, we form a true partnership. Through weekly conversations, we dig deep into what matters most to each of my clients.
Why am I telling you this? For years now, I’ve known that “social media ghostwriting” is a safe hedge. It’s a quick phrase to attract new clients, who only months later realize they have stumbled into something much more powerful.
Also for years now, I’ve had a name for what I really do, but have hesitated to use it. Why? I don’t know.
Social Meditation is the practice of using social media to contemplate—and communicate—what matters most to you.
There, I said it! (This is literally true, I also said these words out loud as I typed them.)
It’s going to take hard word and significant effort to spread the word about this phrase. And in the spirit of full disclosure, this phrase emerged from my collaboration with fellow social media ghostwriter, Amy Blaschka, and I don’t remember which of us first said those words.
No matter. My intention today is to admit it is easier to say, “I’m 100% committed” to do what matters most to me… than it is to actually be 100% committed.
What is it that you have been hesitating to give your 100% commitment?
I’m procrastinating narrating my own stories because I don’t like the sound of my own voice and am afraid to act out the characters’ accents. But I know that I should just do it and get comfortable with it and over time I’ll hopefully get better at it.
