Sorry if I have been a little quiet lately. We just made the decision to sell our house in Park City and have been getting it ready to show.
Earlier today, a firefight came here with his wife and 6 1/2 year old son to pick up our foosball game. We are giving away the furniture we don’t need, with the sole condition that each recipient will make a donation of any size to a local nonprofit.
I was talking to the mom and her son, and we were standing next to a Lego City display of about six buildings, plus assorted other Lego creations. (All of the sets were built by adults who visited our home, just for fun.)
I look at the boy, who obviously loves Lego. I look at the Lego. I wonder if his mom and dad would mind if I gave him the whole collection? I decide to stand up for the kid.
The kid gets the entire set. I made his year.
We can’t solve all the world’s problems. But, every now and then, we can do something nice for another human being that they will never forget.
In other news, in the past month we drove from Utah to Oregon to the Canadian border to McCall, Idado… then dropped off the car in Utah and flew to NYC then drove to Vermont, then back to NYC and back to Utah. We slept in our own bed five days out of 31. That feels about right.
I went back east to meet my granddaughter, Margot, who seems to be obsessed with eating and sleeping.
I will tell you that holding her, I stopped thinking and simply… felt. It was magical.
Except when she cycled through six emotions in five seconds (smile, frown, grimace, turn red, look confused, screech) and I would hand her back to her mother.
I realize that this issue is a bit random, but now you know why I’ve been quiet. Perhaps you’ll find a useful tidbit or two.
All the best,
Bruce
I have great respect for a man with a big heart.
