What Percentage?
When I used to lead a lot of corporate training workshops, there was a simple question I employed to counterbalance the initial impulse of executives to overstate the quality of their current state of affairs.
When they spoke eloquently about how well they were serving customers, I would ask, “What percentage of the time do customers get this sort of treatment?”
Almost always, the answer was somewhere between five and twenty percent. In other words, most of the time, things weren’t as rosy as the picture they tried to paint.
“What percentage of the time do I…” is a powerful question to challenge your own performance.
For example, instead of telling yourself that you are eating in a healthy manner, ask, “What percentage of the time do I eat healthy?”
Or… “What percentage of the time do I show my loved ones that I actually love them?”
Employ “what percentage of the time” to whatever matters most to you.
