Last night in Austin, we joined a wonderful group of friends and had dinner at a community center that serves macrobiotic food and your only choice is to eat the one food combination they are serving.
It was a completely different experience than our typical going out to eat evening. I loved it.
Literally a few minutes before we went out, an AI app I was playing with delivered 100 different avatars of me. (You upload 10-20 photos of yourself, the app works for half an hour, and then it sends you 100 avatars.)
This is one of them:
All 100 sort of look like me, but they are different. Bolder. More adventurous. Bigger. Stronger. A bit more stylized.
Each of these events offered me a modest opportunity to try on a different persona. Maybe it’s more gratifying to eat a healthy meal, cafeteria-style (for $12) with others than to spend $90 having a fancy meal at a table in the corner? Maybe I can rethink my self-perception?
That’s sort of what our roadtrip is all about: trying on a new life.
So far, we’ve covered 2,100 miles as we raced down the East Coast and took a left turn towards Texas. But now our pace is going to slow as we start spending more time in one place.
The good news is that you don’t have to drive 2,100 miles to test drive a different you. All it takes is for you to change your habits and routine. Perhaps follow a cue from the old Seinfeld show and do what the George Constanza character did:
Jerry Seinfeld: If every instinct you have is wrong, then the opposite would have to be right.
George Costanza: Yes, I will do the opposite. I used to sit here and do nothing, and regret it for the rest of the day, so now I will do the opposite, and I will do something!
Just a thought….
Thank you, Caridad. I appreciate your positive and supportive presence in this little community.
LOL - so I should do a "George Costanza" and enjoy, I'm in!!
